Born in Birmingham, Michigan to Cranbrook School of Art students, Tana Acton, like her parents, lives a life focused on creative expression.
Having first studied silversmithing with Glenda Arentzen and later with Japanese goldsmith Tomaso, metalwork became an eventual destination. Over the years Tana has explored modern dance and choreography, painting (Antioch College, BFA), Costume/artwear and fashion design (Parsons School of Design), ultimately culminating in a unique perspective in jewelry design. Movement, air and light are used to create pieces that are at once delicate yet solid, organic yet sharply contemporary. Utilizing textile techniques in metal, Tana's jewelry embodies intriguing complexity of construction within the simplicity of the forms.
